Water passes through the meter
The multi-jet mechanical measuring section records water consumption. The mechanical water meter remains the measurement reference.
A practical learning guide to the meter, its separate CIU, STS token operation, automatic valve control and optional LoRa smart-metering pathway.
The VCW1000 combines multi-jet water measurement with STS prepaid operation and automatic valve control. A separate Customer Interface Unit (CIU) is used for token entry, balance and consumption queries, while LoRa can connect the meter to compatible DCU and AMI infrastructure for supported remote functions.
This page is designed to help property owners, installers and customers understand what happens from the moment water passes through the meter to the moment prepaid credit is checked, recharged and managed.
Scroll through the process from measurement to recharge and optional smart management.
The multi-jet mechanical measuring section records water consumption. The mechanical water meter remains the measurement reference.
The paired CIU can display remaining water volume and other meter information without requiring the customer to access the meter directly.
The customer uses the CIU keypad to enter a valid 20-digit STS credit token and submit the recharge to the paired meter.
Once an accepted token is processed, purchased water volume and remaining water volume can be queried from the CIU.
The VCW1000 includes automatic valve control so the water supply can be managed according to the prepaid meter's operating state and configured system behaviour.
Where the required infrastructure is installed and commissioned, LoRa can link the meter to a compatible DCU and onward AMI system for remote readings and supported valve-control functions.
The LCD and keypad CIU gives the customer a convenient interface for recharge and meter queries.
Use the real product and installation visuals to understand how the meter, customer interface and smart-metering pathway fit together.
The CIU is the customer's interaction point for supported token entry, balance enquiries and meter information.
This visual supports the documented communication path shown in the technical reference below.
Use the installation image to understand the physical context in which the meter is fitted and accessed.
A meter should be selected for its application, not simply because it is prepaid.
Useful where water usage needs to be allocated and recovered from individual occupants through a prepaid process.
Suitable for residential prepaid-water applications where the hydraulic and installation requirements are confirmed.
Can form part of a structured multi-unit prepaid water solution when meters, vending and support are planned correctly.
Useful where property management requires prepaid water control with a pathway to connected meter management.
Use the requirements below as a practical starting point, then confirm the site-specific technical requirements before installation.
This guide explains documented functions and selection considerations. Final product suitability must be confirmed against the project requirements and the current manufacturer documentation.

Yes. The manufacturer describes the VCW1000 (BSSF 15-CIP) as an STS-standard-compliant prepaid water meter using 20-digit token recharge through its CIU.
The guide describes token entry through the separate Customer Interface Unit (CIU), which is paired to the water meter.
The meter can communicate by LoRa with a compatible data concentrator and onward AMI system for supported remote meter reading and water-supply management when the required infrastructure is installed and configured.
Yes. The documented short codes include water usage for the previous 12 months, along with remaining volume, purchased volume and other meter information.
